I ride a bike.

This got me excited:
~17 miles

~17 miles

So I ride my bike a lot. This is where I rode today, courtesy of Map My Run. Neither of the start and end points are my apartment, but I did, as you can maybe see if you know where I live, stop there in between. I woke up in fishtown thanks to a late night study party gone into the morning and ended up in fairbridge where I got a ride home with my bike cause it was cold and my friends are awesome.

Those purple dots aren’t stops. I don’t really know how this site works yet. Stops include school, Satellite Cafe, school again, my apartment, Ritz East, Fairbridge, Skye’s house, 7th and Girard, etc.

And now I’m 17 miles cooler.

Everyone said this movie would be shitty and everyone is wrong.

Thanksgiving is technically over, but I’ll stretch it out for the length of these leftovers to give the internet some important movie-going advice. Earlier this evening I was forced out of my turkey coma to go see A Christmas Carol in 3D. Naturally, I had some problems with this. Specifically:

1) This movie got bad reviews

2) and I think 3D is gimmicky

3) and I hate Christmas movies.

also I was still triptophin’ face and passed out on the couch.

Well, all of these arguments turned out to be misinformed, plain and simple. Worth seeing at least and life changing at best, here is why the movie is great and the critics need to slap on some realD(tm) goggles and grow a pair.

1. This movie was made for 3d glasses. I’m not talking about that Beowulf BS where they point spears at the camera and a dragon flies at your face. Those are gimmicks. In A Christmas Carol, you the viewer spend a good number of the movie’s transitions in the place of Scrooge as he’s taken up by ghosts and flown around 19th century london. YOU FLY. AND FLYING IS AWESOME. With the 3D glasses, you actually get the parallax shifts that make you feel like you’re there and flying.

Of course, the upside of sticking to 3D gimmickry (as in Beowulf) is that the movie doesn’t lose much in the transition to the small screen or a regular theater. A Christmas Carol certainly avenges years of “the 3d craze” pissing me off, but it should have been given a limited, 3D-only release. I doubt any critic could pan it if they’d seen it the way it was intended. I was immersed, man.

2. People have been trying to write stories this awesome for a century and a half. I am so sick of movies with terrible plots. We have all this new technology to deal with and the weak spot is going to be the story? Leave it to the experts. Like maybe Charles Dickens.

NEXT-

3. Imagemovers rocked it. Say what you want, but the CG effects in the film are great. I notoriously uphold the position that “if it can be shot in real life, it should be,” but this time I actually found myself able to rationalize the use of an all-animated cast. The characters do fall into that creepy grey area of “mostly real,” but the camerawork and supernatural effects redeem the choice so long as you’re fine with suspending the ol’ disbelief when the characters forget to blink sometimes. And I do say!- it actually adds charm in places.

Anyway, I’d trade some eye flickers and a few beads of sweat for those swooping cameras weaving their way through props and scenery any day. But let’s get back to how good the story is. I still have a hard time convincing my largely Jewish and atheist posse that it’s worth their time, which brings me to my next point:

4. It’s not really about Christmas. It just happens to be set on Christmas. But they do a really good job of not mentioning Jesus at all. It’s not the fault of Dickens that gentiles are nicer to each other around Christmas time, creating a good general contrast for a Scrooge character. Just go with it. It’s not a christmas movie.

All in all, I was REALLY happy I got off the couch- but THANKFUL that my dad wanted to shell out for the 3D experience. You really need the whole package, but if you have it, this movie kicks ass. If it appears in theaters every year around the holidays as a limited 3D release and is never, EVER released on dvd until such a time where 3D technology is made available in my own home, I will be completely at peace with the world.

Pictures of my apartment!

It’s clean right now, but clearly it’s implied that these are never before seen.

The bathroom is basically a bathroom. The toilet is crammed into a corner because, as Dan pointed out, the signature of A Signature Community is awful, awful toilet placement.

Don’t forget to check the alt/mouseover text on the images. I don’t know if I’ll keep doing that, but probably. I always enjoy a good Complicated & Indirect™

Have a lovely day, dear readers at work!

Here's some 21

Work is cool still, and now I have workx2. I’m finally a barista like you all knew I would be.

Currently my good neighbor Dan is here. We are eating spaghetti and drinking found wine and watching WHYY, because Dan just told me that I have some channels and then proved it.

Welcome to SPAGtown

Welcome to SPAGtown

Soon we will We were going to join our other good neighbor, the gentleman Brett, for copious beers, but at the time of this update it is raining; and dan has gone home.

Moving into 2308 Locust #1F come July… Anyone want to come visit? it’s tiny, but I know I’ll make good of it.

Real update later, I’m tiiiired. -k.

Exhibit A

Exhibit A

Exhibit A

Exhibit B

I’m kind of addicted to frisbee lately.

And as you can imagine, it’s hard being the lone co-op during finals week when frisbee cravings are raging.

Work is FUN. I did my first press emails the other day and I think its going to be good. Working the next three days to put bread on the [Extr.s'] table. I also still need to find an apartment.

Please post your haircut suggestions below. It is time.

LISTEN TO THIS

Terzetto - The Extraordinaires

Also, no one told me about this and it must have been printed a month ago, but hey, I found it:

I found myself today.... in the liner notes

I found myself in the liner notes

I’m going to relax tonight I think. And maybe get milkshakes with my pals when they finish their finals at midnight.

cheers, KW

I love [the idea of] being a publicist

This is what I did this weekend

this is what I did this weekend

I haven’t even started, but…I’ve started.

So the deal is, working at PRP ruled on friday. I start my next day tomorrow, which means I have to plug in my alarm clock ’cause I can’t get away with sleeping at leigh’s every time I gotta go to work.

I made so many buttons and a few album books. If you get an extr.’s album or button, remember that I could have potentially contributed the labor required to produce it, and then enjoy it more. I love manual labor. Did you know that? Now you do. Everything I do at this job feels so much more productive than labs work. At least to me. In any case it’s refreshing. for now.

Then I gotta get my A-game ready to promote this tour. I have so many ideas to make the band and label money, but for now I should probably just go to work on time and do my manual labor.

First i have to nap. i will update tomorrow.

I made a delicious grilled cheese

Cropped and Resized with MS Paint

Hello again dear readers.

I have been enjoying a bag of trail mix from Trader Joes. Who knew I liked trail mix? It’s my new thing. Also a family friend gave me an hp laptop with a built-in cam so I can now take pictures of myself eating grilled cheese and post them here.

Everything is on track (she said warily; shifty-eyed).  I start my new job at PRP on friday. Gittin’ some training! Dr. J. Eckles gave me some tips on how not to die in South Philly: “Get a gun or learn a deadly martial art.”

*Which reminds me, I updated the blogroll - added Justin and +1 freshman. You’d like him. I shall use him as a segway to talking about the labs very briefly.

DIGM STUFF (notated as such so you can ignore it if you choose) So I am rendering without fur and comping because I don’t want to be totally screwed. In the event that dl83 or Dr. Renderman PhD want to help me with shave, I’ll do that next.

I love coffee.

I am excited to go to the beach.

And if you haven’t already, follow me on twitter. Good day, y’all.

DanB told me I should update my blog

Posted by admin on May 22, 2009 at 4:29 pm | Filed Under: kward day to day| 4 comments

Yesterday I saw St. Vincent Live. That was a really good show. I recommend going next time. I also recommend having music major friends get you on the list so that you don’t have to pay for a ticket when you’re broke.

Afterwards we (a few 22/23 year olds and me) tried our (my) luck at some late night New Deck, which was pleasantly a success. I had something called a snakebite, and someone was trying to play music in the basement. I don’t think I’ll get that coldplay cover out of my mind anytime soon.

DIGM Stuff? Uh, this bluebird is past due. I know, that’s bad. I’m not ready to admit defeat yet but shave is my mortal enemy, and the only one that can tame it for the renderfarm is a senior,  and as such he is busy. Also there are no licenses or farm slots open much anyway. I picked a pretty bad time to wage a war against RIBs and Fur systems, because the seniors are FREEEEAKING out. Best to avoid the labs.

Positives- I have a deep, deep appreciation for Birds. And their feathers. And their stupid, furry bodies. I can’t see birds anymore without looking at them closely. I guess that’s cool.

WHY I HATE THE TING TINGS - I don’t like any band whose tracks fit unwaveringly into the genre of “annoying”

CO-OP. That’s cool. I think I’m interning for Punk Rock Payroll because my interview-type-thing went well. I’ll be doing merch-making and shipping and I believe some publicist work for the band I already don’t get paid to talk about a lot. “The guys [extr.'s] swear by you” -owner. I think this could be really fun. And I might make some money if things go right. Biking to south philly is pretty great too, when I’m not getting chased by a bunch of hood kids screaming references to the #FFFFFF of my skin. Their mommas oughta smack them. Anyway don’t take greys ferry anywhere if you can avoid it, unless you want your tires popped. My tires are fine, but I don’t think a daily commute on that road would lend very well to having consistently inflated tires.

I made a grilled cheese with muenster cheese and grape jelly for lunch. It was really good.

Now I’m in the labs, ’cause I might as well poke around and try to get some renders out. I don’t have a laptop anymore. It was pronounced dead at 11:50 PM on sunday, when I plugged it in and it did nothing. str8 flatlined.

I’m gonna update more, which is cool. Now that I don’t have to suck up to companies in big cities especially.
